The night of the theft
On the night of the theft, eight people were around the magazines. They all say the patrol was done. Nobody says by whom. Some clues in this case come as riddles. If one stumps you, a hint will solve it. Eight people and one grenade, one per row and one per column. Almost nothing is said directly: you'll have to cross everything.
Suspects
- Abraão, the corporal on the two o'clock patrol: He did the two o'clock patrol from two to five past two. He says the rest was scrub.
- Benedito, the watchtower soldier: He kept watch all night with binoculars. The binoculars had their caps on.
- Cacilda, the duty sergeant: She signed the patrol log at six in the morning, in everyone's handwriting.
- Dionília, the mess cook: She made soup for twelve and only eight turned up. She says the other four were on duty somewhere else.
- Eusébio, the base electrician: He was fixing the electric fence, which had had no electricity since the year before.
- Fernanda, the duty lieutenant: She slept with the phone next to her. The phone didn't ring, so she slept well.
- Gualter, the driver: He took the van to the garage at three in the morning. The garage opens at nine.
- Herculana, the shepherdess who crosses the land: She has walked her sheep through the hole in the fence for years. That night the sheep were the only ones who didn't go through.
