First hearing

On 17 June 2025 the trial began at the Lisbon courthouse, with a packed room and reporters at the door. On day one, one of the brothers said the video had been made to manipulate. Inside it was June-hot, and the fan going from hand to hand vanished by the end of the morning. Eight people and a fan, one per row and one per column. Almost nothing is said directly: you'll have to cross everything.

Suspects

• Amâncio, the court usher: He let the public in until there was no room left. Then he let two more in, to be nice.
• Bernardete, the law student: She came to see a real trial for an assignment. She picked this one because it had more people.
• Crisanto, the TV reporter: He did a live report at the courtroom door every hour. He never once went inside.
• Deolinda, the duo's fan: She came to support the brothers in a 2009 tour T-shirt. She says it still fits.
• Eleutério, the comedian's fan: He came to support the comedian and ended up next to Deolinda. By the end of the morning they were swapping mints.
• Felismina, the café lady: She sold more water that day than in the whole of May. She says the heat is good for business.
• Gervásio, the door security guard: He puts the bags through the X-ray. Lots of fans went through that day, and he can't tell one from another.
• Hilária, the court clerk: She writes down everything that's said. She says "manipulate" looks like a doctor's prescription in her handwriting.
